Tell Your AI Who You Are (It Makes Every Answer Better)

By Phil Gee ยท AI Academy, Southport

Imagine hiring a new assistant and never telling them what your business does, who your customers are, or how you like things done. You'd get bland, generic work and you'd be annoyed. Yet that's exactly how most people use AI. They type a request into a blank box and wonder why the answer sounds like it could have been written for anybody.

The fix takes about five minutes. Most AI tools have a settings or profile page where you can describe yourself. Write a few plain sentences: what you do, where you're based, who your customers are, and how you like to communicate. Something like: "I run a small business in the North West. My customers are local business owners who aren't technical. I like short, direct answers in plain English with no jargon."

Do that once and every answer gets sharper, because the AI starts each conversation already knowing the basics. You stop repeating yourself, and the results sound more like you and less like a robot. If you only do one thing from this cheat sheet today, make it this one.
